Fantasy Fest 2026 Key West: Parade, Body Paint, Parties

Key West's 10-day adults-only costume, body paint and street party festival

  • Adults only

Picture a mile of Duval Street packed shoulder to shoulder with 75,000 people. Half are in costumes that took months to build, the other half in a G-string and a layer of paint. Music pours out of every open door, drinks never stop moving and nobody goes to bed before 3 a.m. That is Fantasy Fest: ten days, one tiny island at the bottom of the map and the closest thing America has to Carnival in Rio. Put it on the bucket list, then actually book it.

Who it's for

Adults who want the wildest street party in the country. Couples, singles and friend groups all come, from first-timers in a T-shirt to veterans in full body paint. It is not an official lifestyle event, but the lifestyle crowd shows up in force and runs its own parties all week, so it works just as well for a vanilla bar crawl as for a lifestyle getaway.

Highlights

  • The Fantasy Fest Parade

Saturday, October 24 at 7 p.m. Floats, marching crews and the biggest crowd of the year rolling through Old Town. Claim your spot on lower Duval by late afternoon or watch from a balcony bar.

  • Body paint and the Fantasy Zone

On lower Duval, painted tops count as covered and open containers are allowed. It is the one week a year the island turns into an open-air canvas.

  • Two kinds of night

Rick's and Dirty Harry's and the classic Duval bars run wide open all week. The Garden of Eden rooftop is clothing optional, Aquaplex, Bourbon Street Pub and La Te Da bring the drag and cabaret, and lifestyle parties and hotel events run their own program behind the main drag.

  • Masquerade March

The locals' parade through Old Town. No float needed: dress up, fall in and walk it with everyone else.

  • Costume balls and theme parties

The Headdress Ball, Sloppy Joe's Toga Party on Thursday, October 22, pool parties and a mile-long Duval street fair to close it out.

  • The 2026 theme

Musical Icons and Iconic Musicals. Expect Broadway leads, '80s hair bands and body-painted pop divas everywhere you look.

Recovery brunch, the pool and one more walk down Duval before everyone scatters.

The venue: Duval Street and Old Town

The whole of Old Town Key West, centered on Duval Street. The Fantasy Zone runs from lower Duval up to United Street and takes in the cross streets between Whitehead and Simonton. Open containers in plastic cups are allowed inside it, glass is not, and the normal rules come back on as soon as you step outside it. For the classic Duval bar crawl, start at Rick's and Dirty Harry's at 202 Duval, a stack of open-air bars and live music that stays packed all week. For skin, climb to the Garden of Eden, the clothing-optional rooftop bar above the Bull at 224 Duval. Further up the street, Aquaplex at 711 Duval, Bourbon Street Pub at 724 Duval and La Te Da's cabaret at 1125 Duval run the island's biggest LGBTQ+ parties, drag shows and theme nights, and everyone is welcome. The lifestyle crowd's private parties and hotel events run on the blocks behind Duval and are announced in lifestyle groups, not on the street.

Who goes and house rules

  • Who can go

Adults are the crowd. Plenty of people come in regular clothes and still have the time of their lives

  • Dress code

Anything goes from full costume to jeans. Inside the Fantasy Zone (lower Duval to United Street, plus the cross streets between Whitehead and Simonton) painted tops count as covered. Bottoms need a real, opaque layer everywhere, paint goes on behind closed doors, and public sex acts are off limits

Insider tips

  1. Pace yourself. It is ten days, and the people who peak on night one are asleep by the parade.
  2. Sleep in, party late. Mornings are for the pool, coffee and a Cuban sandwich. The island comes alive after dark.
  3. Carry a light cover-up. Painted tops are fine in the Fantasy Zone, not on the walk back to your room.
  4. Check SDC, SLS and Fantasy Fest lifestyle groups weeks ahead. Lifestyle parties fill up and many require registration.
  5. Go to a public meet and greet first. It is the easiest way to read the room and make friends before the late events.
  6. Clothing-optional does not mean lifestyle. A spot like the Garden of Eden rooftop is about being naked in the open air, not hooking up.
  7. Wear shoes you can stand in for six hours. Duval is hot, crowded and covered in spilled drinks.
  8. Leave the backpack, glass and toy weapons at the hotel. Bags get searched and fake weapons get confiscated.
  9. Carry cash and a charged phone. Lines are long and you will want to find your friends again.

What to pack

  • A costume for the 2026 theme, Musical Icons and Iconic Musicals
  • Body paint plus an opaque bottom layer for parade night
  • A light cover-up for outside the Fantasy Zone
  • A toga for Sloppy Joe's Thursday night
  • Comfortable shoes you can stand in for hours
  • Swimwear for the pool parties
  • Sunscreen and a refillable water bottle
  • Cash and a portable phone charger

Getting there

Key West sits at the end of the Overseas Highway, the last island in the Florida Keys.

EYW, Key West International Airport, a short ride from Old Town. The alternative is the drive from Miami, about three and a half hours with no traffic, and during Fantasy Fest there is always traffic.

  • Taxis and rideshares are close to impossible during parade week. Once you arrive, park the car and forget it exists.
  • Book your room within walking distance of Duval. Anything you can walk home from at 3 a.m. wins.
