Els Tossals nude beach: what to expect

Els Tossals, signposted in Spanish as Los Tusales, is the beach Guardamar del Segura itself presents as its naturist beach, and the Valencian tourism board lists it as suitable for naturism too. It runs for about 1.6 km north from the mouth of the Segura river to the municipal boundary with Elche, with Guardamar's protected dune belt behind it and no buildings on the sand. For anyone staying in Torrevieja, La Mata or Guardamar, it is the closest beach where going nude is the norm rather than a quiet exception.

Expect a wild beach, not a resort strip. The Spanish Naturist Federation records no lifeguards and no showers, and the town lists wooden walkways as the only infrastructure, so bring water, food, a sunshade and a towel. The dunes are roped off for regeneration, which keeps the backdrop green and the sand clean but means there is no shade behind you. The swell is usually moderate, and the beach is broad enough that you will find space even in August.

Nude use starts a little north of the river. The first 300 m or so from the river mouth are used as a swimsuit beach, and the naturist stretch runs from there north to the El Rebollo boundary. The Valencian naturist association describes the section as clearly signposted and in established nude use, and the Spanish Naturist Federation rates it a quiet beach.

Our tip: go in from the north. Park at the El Rebollo beach car park beside Camping La Marina, walk the pine-shaded lane to the sand and turn right; within about 300 m you cross into Guardamar and the nude section begins. You skip the swimsuit stretch entirely, and the water at this end is cleaner, since the river mouth tends to cloud the sea at the southern end.

  • Keep off the dunes

The dune belt is protected and fenced. Cross it only on the boardwalks and marked paths.

  • Relaxed and respectful

It is a public beach. Give people space, do not stare, and keep anything sexual well away from the sand.

  • No lifeguards

There are no services on this stretch. Take your rubbish back with you.
