El Carabassí nude beach: what to expect
El Carabassí is the Elche municipality's wild beach: almost a kilometre of soft golden sand at the foot of the Carabassí hills, with fossil dunes and pine woods behind it and no promenade or high-rises on the sand. The regional tourism board lists it as a nudist beach, and in practice the naturists gather at the southern end, the sector toward Santa Pola, while the northern sectors next to Arenales del Sol work like any busy summer beach.
Set your expectations for a Spanish mixed beach rather than a nudist enclave. In July and August plenty of people in swimsuits and topless sunbathers spread into the southern sector too, and nude regulars say the balance tips back their way from mid-September and through the quieter months. It is a public beach, so keep things relaxed and non-sexual and give people space.
All the services sit in the northern sectors: lifeguards in season, a chiringuito beach bar, showers and foot showers, toilets and sunbed and umbrella rental. The naturist end has none of that beyond litter bins, so carry water, food and your own shade. The sea is often lively, which brings out windsurfers and kitesurfers, and the rocks hold enough marine life to make a mask worth packing on calm mornings.
Our tip: skip the main lot by the beach bar and use the dirt car park at the southern end, then follow the long boardwalk across the dunes straight to the naturist sector. It has no shade, so leave a sunshade on the windscreen. On summer weekends the parking fills before midday, so aim to be on the sand by 10 AM.

El Carabassí rules and etiquette
Nude at the south end
Head for the sector toward Santa Pola before you undress. The northern sectors by Arenales del Sol are a regular swimsuit beach.
Stay on the boardwalks
The dunes are protected and parts are roped off for regeneration. Cross them only on the marked walkways.
No staring, nothing sexual
It is a public beach shared by nude and clothed visitors. Keep it relaxed and respectful.
Bring a towel and shade
There are no services in the naturist sector. Bring water, shade and a towel to sit on.
Watch the flags
Swim under green or yellow flags only. Red flags are common on windy days, when the waves pick up.
How to get to El Carabassí
El Carabassí sits on the Elche coast between Arenales del Sol and Santa Pola, just below the Gran Alacant hill. It is the closest naturist beach to Alicante airport, which lies only a few minutes to the north, and roughly half an hour by car from central Alicante.
Drive if you can
Public transport stops well short of the sand and the naturist sector is the far end of the beach. A car lets you park right by the boardwalk and leave when the wind picks up.
